CORVALLIS, Ore. — An Albany woman is behind bars after police say she stole a car from the Oregon State University campus.
Corvallis police arrested 34-year-old Merideth Kachel early Wednesday morning after a man called 9-1-1 saying someone was stealing his car.
Police say the car doors were unlocked and the keys were inside.
Eventually, police say the woman got out of the car and ran on foot until officers caught her in Central Park.
“I think it’s really important for everybody to remember to lock the car and to take the keys out of it and to do everything you can to protect your vehicle and to protect your property from being stolen,” said Capt. Henslee, Corvallis Police Department.
Police say the woman told them she was just trying to get home.
